Concept Proposal
ROOMS TO LET: CLE
Kenn Hetzel
My proposal is to reconstruct the interior and exterior of an outside 1st floor wall. Based on the length of the wall and starting in a corner I will remove every other section of the interior and exterior wall between the supporting frames starting two feet up from the floor and going to the ceiling creating open spaces to the outside. Any existing windows will be taken into consideration and dealt with accordingly. Once the sections have been cut out I will cap the bottom of each space and fill them with various materials from the property or brought in. For example: The plaster/ drywall taken down may refill one of the spaces except being layered on top of each other horizontally. Other materials being considered for fill is the lath, bricks/stones/concrete, pieces of salvaged furniture, cut squares of grass from the yard, etc. While filling in the spaces openings will be constructed as alternative windows/peep holes allowing viewers to interact with the reconstruction and giving them a different perspective of the outside area. Viewers will be encouraged to write about and or draw what they have seen on the remaining walls. Visually the room itself will change due to the shadows that will be cast by the new openings. Because you never know what circumstances may come up alternative approaches have already been considered which may involve a different approach while, keeping the main idea intact.
